Wow! We have an exciting week planned! February 10 - 14 is Love of Reading Week and so we will have an author speak to us, write our favorite author, watch Stories That Soar and have the literacy parade on Friday morning at 9:00. You are welcome to watch the parade. Each class has decorated their door for Love of Reading. I invite you to walk around and see the variety of doors.
As if Love of Read Week was not exciting enough, the fourth grade has a couple of special events too. We will sell the Hug-a-grams Monday through Wednesday at lunch. My class is responsible for selling on Monday. Thursday the 4th grade will celebrate Arizona's birthday one day early with a special rotation of classes that will include learning the 5Cs of Arizona, the counties and an art project. We will even munch on some fresh, hot tortillas!
Just to make this week even more exciting, our class has a technology day planned for Tuesday morning. The students have saved 50 class points and voted for a technology day. A permission to bring technology to school will be sent home in Monday's Dragon Folder. Neither the school or I will be responsible for any lost or broken electronic devices. I will do everything possible to encourage the safety of the devices.
Thursday and Friday are Parent Teacher Conference Days and the students will be dismissed at 11:40. Please discuss transportation and lunch plans with your son or daughter so they know what to do. If you have an appointment with me, I definitely want the student to attend.
We will be enhancing our ability to write a friendly letter this week as the kids select a favorite author to write. I will be requiring at least a three paragraph letter. The first paragraph introduces the student, the second describes why the student likes the author/book and the final paragraph the students can ask the author questions. Please edit the rough draft with your son or daughter on Wednesday evening.
The kids should have a far better understanding of how to use a protractor to measure angles after Monday's lesson. This week we will be studying measuring and types of angles, lines, points and rays. Geometry is very rich in vocabulary.
