Teacher's note January 30, 2012

This Tuesday will be the Soleng Tom Night at the Museum featuring your own children as the tour guides.  Work samples will be in the library, cafeteria, halls and the computer lab for you to see.  As an incentive program, students will receive a homework freebie if a parent or grandparent attends The Night at the Museum.  I hope to see you  Tuesday evening.

Our biography book report is due on Friday!  The kids should be about finished with the book and deciding what type of book report they want to produce.  I am pleased to say three students have already finished and presented their report.

I am extremely pleased with the stories for Too Much of a Good Thing.  Many of the stories are turning into four or five pages.  We have been editing the stories as a rough draft and again when the students hand in the story.  I want to make sure the kids understand quotation marks and paragraphs. All of the stories should be completed by Friday.

Thursday will be the first day of track practice for 4th and 5th graders.  Any student wishing to try out for the team needs to have their permission form handed in before they can attend practice.  I will be helping with track after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and will not be back in my room until about 3:45.  Track should be great exercise and fun too!

Last Friday we took our test on addition and subtraction strategies.  The results will be in the today's Dragon Folder.  As always, students will be offered another opportunity to take the test if they did not meet the standard.  Now we were are on to fractions, decimals, and percents.  This will be a fun and challenging unit as we draw and build many models.

Next Wednesday, February 8th, is a Parent Teacher Conference Day.  The students will be dismissed at 11:17.  I will make appointments with the families  that we need to discuss a topic.  If you want a conference with me, please email or write me a note.  There will not be enough time to meet with every family.

Thank you to everyone who helped cut out the Hug-a- gram hearts.  This week we are working on gluing the kisses to the hearts.  If you can donate kisses please send them to school by Tuesday.  Thanks again for your help.

Take care,
Mrs. Figueroa
