Welcome back from what I hope was a very enjoyable Rodeo Vacation.
Did the kids tell you our class made about a four foot snowman last Wednesday? That was fun!
Only two more weeks until our fiction book report is due. The kids should be reading a great book for that report.
This week we return to our reading routine with spelling, vocabulary and story assessment. Our reading selection describes immigrants becoming citizens of the United States. The kids will also being using an atlas to locate places in the story. Students should finish up their author letter and have it in the mail by Tuesday. Wednesday we will start on one of my favorite writing projects of the year - the character sketch! The students will be writing paragraphs about their personality, appearance, hobbies, important people in their life, favorite places and goals. This project has plenty of opportunities for the students to work for a four.
We took our fraction test last Wednesday. The results will be sent home in Monday's Dragon Folders. Students that did not earn a three yet may have another opportunity to earn a three. Actually they will be strongly encouraged to take the test again to improve their score. Our next math unit is 3 Dimensional geometry. We will only cover part of that unit at this time. After we study solids and finding volume we will put the rest of the unit on the shelf until after AIMS. We need to keep up with the pacing calendar and cover double digit multiplication and long division.
Monday the kids will set up group and class sprouters to observe how seeds grow and the life cycle of a plant. Science is going to be exciting.
We have been working on a timeline project for social studies. The kids have been researching a topic and should be about finished producing a computer a page with facts and pictures on the event. I am looking forward to seeing the final product.
May we all have a wonderful week!
Take care,
Mrs. Figueroa
