The students had extremely impressive book reports on Friday! I was very pleased with their eagerness to present and quality of reports. The few students that did not present on Friday will have their opportunity Monday. Ask your son or daughter to tell you about a few of the book reports.
This week the class will read the novel Chocolate Fever. As we read the humorous book the students will identify the cause and effect relationships in the plot. Then we will notice how the author uses quotation marks and paragraphs. This will help prepare the students to write personal narratives third quarter. There will not be vocabulary or spelling words this week.
Our math unit will continue to focus on addition strategies. A new math rule will go into place Monday. The students must solve each addition problem using two strategies and one must be the standard algorithm.
This will be our most exciting science week so far this year. The kids will be building electromagnets, series and parallel circuits. Then they plan and build a model home out of cardboard that has electrical switches, no wires showing and working lights. It should be a good challenge!
Thursday the fourth grade will gather together to view The Polar Express. We hope the kids enjoy the movie!
I want to thank each of you for a wonderful first semester and wish you a wonderful Winter Break. May you enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. We return to school on January 7, 2013.
Warmly,
Mrs. Figueroa
